for all the "firsts" we've had together (too many to count)
for all the "firsts" we have yet to experience
for all the laughter :-) we've had
for all the tears we've shed
for all the fights
for learning to fight "for us" not against us
for all the make-ups ;-)
for being passionate about the things you believe in
for not being afraid to say what you are passionate about
for telling the truth even when it hurts
for the time we had together before children
for having beautiful children with me
for loving those children with all your heart
for the time we will have together after our children are grown
for raising those children to love & trust the Lord
for being at all of their doctors appointments (except 1. . . where Phillip & I both cried when Sara got her shot) we missed you being there that day
for going to a job everyday that I consider to be one of the most difficult jobs there could ever be
for caring about all of your "other" children at that job
for being so transparent and honest at that job that it sometimes comes back to bite you (which may I say is no fault of yours)
for being a summertime "stay at home" dad ~ your children will always remember the good times
for crying at sappy movies
for needing me
for wanting me
for long drives to nowhere in particular
for taking walks with me
for making me "slow down" and smell the roses because life is too short to sweat the small stuff
for bringing me "free" flowers (because I feel guilty if we spend $$ on them)
for loving the Lord
for desiring to be the man that God wants you to be
for sharing this journey of faith with me with all of its ups and downs
for believing that God will finish what He has started in us
for hocking your table saw to buy my study bible for Christmas
for knowing me & understanding me
for believing in me
for trusting me
for encouraging me
for loving me unconditionally (a true Christ likeness in you) especially considering I can be very unlovely at times
for dreaming "big" dreams with me
for being my very best friend
for looking at me today the same way you looked at that blue eyed 16 year old. . . you made me feel beautiful then and you still make me feel beautiful
And because you've known me now for 22 years and if you weren't going to like me you would have done it by now.
I love you Jonathon Dean, you are my Grinder's Switch! Today is 40 years and counting. The BEST is yet to come. . .
